John Jamison's blog
Text Messaging and Driving, Project Management and Steam Locomotives.

I was driving down the road near my house, watching the black car in the middle lane ahead of me. This thing was all over the road...the left side...the right side...speed up...slow down...come into my lane...swerve back to the middle. Just a wreck looking for a place to stop for the newspaper photo.
May I Have Your Attention Please!

"A strong link between attention and learning has been shown in classroom research both a hundred years ago and as recently as last week. The story is consistent: Whether you are an eager preschooler or a bored-out-of-your-mind undergrad, better attention always equals better learning. It improves the retention of reading material, accuracy, and clarity in writing, math, science -- every academic category that has ever been tested."
It is Ok

I am taking this opportunity to stand right up here in front of everyone and announce that as far as I am concerned..."It is OK!"
- It is OK to create learning and training that is fun.
- It is OK to create ways for learners to collaborate in new ways.
- It is OK to create new ways to demonstrate that learning has taken place!
New Environments for TranceFormation
We are excited to announce the arrival of the newest learning environments in our ImagiLearning Island chain in Second Life. These two islands, ImagiLearning Highlands and ImagiLearning Lowlands, are a fantastic space that will serve as the home of our TranceFormational Learning model.
So, What Is Your Point?

It's called "elevator talk", or in the more traditional settings it's a "mission statement" or a "purpose statement", depending upon who's theory is being thought of. But the focus is that one simple sentence that states clearly and succinctly what the focus is. It's the "point" around which everything else revolves.
So, what is your point?
Take A Deep Breath...
Hello everyone,

I wanted to comment about changes you may be hearing about taking place with Second Life, through a "downsizing" of the staff at Linden Lab. True to form, this change has once again triggered a huge wave of "gloom and doom" on the SL education listserve, and the rumors are flying around in amazing form.
The Most Difficult Part of Second Life
"If it just wasn't so hard..."

It is a conversation I see taking place every day in blogs and threads related to Second Life...someone concerned about how difficult Second Life is to learn and use. Sometimes it is a simple sharing of frustration, while other times it is a rant targeting those evil developers who could make it easier if they wanted too. It's a popular topic. So, now it's my turn.
Games and Learning: Let's put this to rest...
The goal is NOT to play games.

I like games. I play games. I think that games can be outstanding learning experiences. But my goal is not to convince educators and trainers to "play games" as a part of their teaching and training.
Diversions and Distractions
This is number three in (hopefully) a series of posts that will cover the creation of a new learning activity/game in Second Life using the Logic System, and demonstrating our new TranceFormational Learning approach to learning and training.

The Project Part Two
